平泉寺白山神社（Heisenji Hakusan Shrine）

白山神社は717年に泰澄によって開かれました。戦国時代には8,000人もの僧兵がいたと伝えられ、日本最大規模の宗教都市として発展しました。境内は緑の美しい苔で覆われ、荘厳で美しい風景は、パワースポットとしても、フォトスポットとしても人気があります。中世にタイムスリップしたかのような感覚を覚えます。

Buddhist temple, Heisen-ji, was founded in 717 AD by the Japanese Shugendō monk Taichō. During the Warring States period, there were as many as 8,000 monk-soldiers here, and the city developed into Japan’s largest religious center. The temple grounds are covered entirely in beautiful green moss, and the solemn, picturesque scenery makes it a popular destination both as a spiritual site and a photo spot. You’ll feel as if you’ve been transported back to the Middle Ages.
